Rome actually exceeded my expectations and became one of my favorite major cities — right up there with Porto. Yes, there were tons of tourists there. Sometimes it felt as if the whole world had decided to crowd into the same street on the very same day. Yet Rome didn’t strike me like many big cities, where the sights are isolated islands in the middle of endless concrete. In Rome, the entire city itself is a sight to behold. Why go to Fiumicino Airport, and what is Anzio? Part 1
Fiumicino Airport reminded me a lot of the one in Lisbon. First you walk. Then you walk some more. And just when you think you’re almost there, it turns out that the next leg of the journey is just beginning. Somewhere at the end of this journey, there was supposed to be a train station. I’ll tell you right away how to get from the airport to Rome, what and where Anzio is, and other interesting things. And of course, lots and lots of photos! Trieste: Barcola Beach and Miramare Castle. Part 2
You can get to Barcola beach from the stop opposite Trieste train station by buses no. 6 and 36. The beach is rocky, but the Adriatic water is warm and the summer weather is sunny. Walking along the long promenade under the pine trees and breathing in the scent of the south is classically pleasant. You can swim in the Barcola area from April to early November. Further north of Barcola is the Miramare Castle. Let’s go take a closer look and at the end of the day we’ll also take a look at my bedroom. Read more “Trieste: Barcola Beach and Miramare Castle. To Italy for morning coffee. Where is Trieste? Part 1
Trieste is an Italian city that I had never heard of before. Trieste is made beautiful by the Adriatic Sea (Gulf of Trieste) and a Venetian-style canal. Trieste is located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, on the border with Slovenia. Since Trieste is a border city where many cultures have mixed, it has its own special atmosphere and charm.
